The 2010 Outback is…

…the “it” vehicle everywhere!

“In Portland and Seattle, or throughout the coastal or mountain backcountry of the Pacific Northwest, you won’t have to look long to find a Subaru Outback. They’re every which way you look, in the driveways of everyone from windsurfers to skiers to antiquing empty nesters. And if there’s an official car of this region, this is it.” Source: Driven: 2010 Subaru Outback – The Car Connection

It’s easy to understand why, once again, the Outback was named the SUV of the year by Motor Trend.

Subaru helps spread Christmas cheer

“A Subaru Forester is set to be driven all the way to Lapland to make a special delivery to Santa Claus.

Sarah Turner of Hingham in Norfolk is getting behind the wheel for the epic journey as Subaru links up with a local charity to help spread some Christmas cheer.

Ms Turner will hand-deliver a parcel of Christmas letters to Santa written by children who are cared for by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).” Source: Subaru Forester set for Santa Lapland visit – Carmony

Subaru Legacy wins kudos…

…from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

“The stylish and delicate-looking front and rear bumper areas of most new vehicles are, just as they appear, damage-prone and expensive to fix, even from minor parking-lot-speed impacts. However the new 2010 Subaru Legacy fares well; in the latest round of bumper evaluations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it gets one of the best ratings yet.

The most impressive area of improvement was in the front full-width test, where the vehicle is run into a steel barrier that simulates another car bumper. In this, the 2010 Subaru Legacy sustained just $847 in damage, versus an estimated $4,049 for the previous 2007 Legacy tested. The IIHS attributes a wider and slightly taller front reinforcement bar for the improvement; in the previous test the Subaru’s bumper had slid underneath the barrier, seriously damaging the hood, grille, and headlights.” Source: 2010 Subaru Legacy: Better Bumpers Cut Repair Costs, Says IIHS – The Car Connection

Subaru,more than a pretty face!

Subaru heads for a record year…

…enjoying a 13% sales increase.

“Over the years, Subaru, the automotive unit of Japan’s Fuji Heavy Industries, has carved out an image as a carmaker that goes its own way. While larger Japanese rivals have won plaudits for building reliable but sometimes dull cars, Subaru has specialized in making sporty all-wheel-drive cars and SUVs powered by turbocharged boxer engines.

In 2009, Subaru is standing out from the crowd for another reason: Unlike most other automakers, it’s enjoying hot sales. Through the end of October, Subaru sold 176,000 cars in the U.S., a rise of 13% on a year earlier. That’s all the more impressive given the slump of the wider market, which is down 25%. What’s more, among automakers that have sold more than 20,000 vehicles, only Korea’s Hyundai and its subsidiary Kia—both benefiting from the weak Korean currency—have expanded sales at faster clips. “You might be surprised to see such drastic improvement in results,” Ikuo Mori, Fuji Heavy’s president said at press conference on Nov. 2. “We’ve got some good cars.”" Source: Subaru: Japan’s Hottest Car Company – BusinessWeek

The Subaru Outback wins again…

…beating the Chevrolet Equinox and Toyota Venza.

“”The new Outback has been breaking sales records across Canada since it first appeared in dealerships, and was recently named SUV of the Year by Motor Trend magazine,” said Katsuhiro Yokoyama, president and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. “I’d say the award makes the verdict unanimous.”

AJAC’s rigorous Canadian Car of the Year testing program includes real-world driving on public roads – exactly where consumers drive – so that the test data and vote results are highly relevant to potential buyers.” Source: New Outback Wins Canadian Award

Making Tracks, Ken Block style.

“Starting with a rally-prepared 2009 WRX STI, Subaru Rally Team USA’s technical partner, Vermont SportsCar, built the one-off 400-hp TRAX STI envisioned by, and built for, DC Shoes co-founder and SRT USA driver Ken Block. The WRX STI TRAX is ready for the half-pipe, with a Yakima FatCat 4 Snowboard Rack up top, a Yakima Landing Pad rack base and DC Shoes XFB-C Snowboards. Naturally, there is a custom matching sleigh to go with it.” Source: The Subaru WRX STI Snow-Ready Performance Car at 2009 SEMA Show

There’s nothing so sure as…

…maybe.

“It’s no secret that Toyota and Subaru have been collaborating on a new coupe for some time. In fact, we’ve mentioned the mythical “Toyobaru” on numerous occasions, and even hazarded a guess that Toyota’s version of the lovechild might fill the gap left by the long-lost Celica. On Tuesday, Marty Padgett showed us the Toyota FT-86 (pictured at left), which may confirm our guesswork when it’s fully revealed at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show two weeks from now. As for Subaru, we’ve just come across renderings of its own “Toyobaru” offspring, and while the car certainly looks exciting, its future is far less certain. (We’d post an image here, but the owners of those renderings have gotten a little grabby.)” Source: And Now, Subaru’s Take On The ‘Toyobaru’ Experiment – The Car Connection
