GM’s Ed Piatek on Cadillac’s V series

“What makes a V-series car, and what can you not do with a Cadillac V?
The CTS-V Coupe is really the fourth or fifth generation of V. We started with the original CTS-V, STS, XLR-V, and now the CTS-V sedan and coupe. Consistent throughout these has been the application of performance and technology. It can’t be punishing. We want performance without the punishment. I think the key there is a bimodal character where you can get in the car and it’s got the poise and composure to be driven every day, like a luxury car has to be. It’s a Cadillac at the end of the day. But you want to be able to have track capabilities, acceleration performance among the best cars in the world. That’s where we’ve developed a bandwidth with V-series where the car truly is track capable right out of the box. And at the same time, it’s a car that you can drive every day without feeling like you’re in some kind of numbers-producing car with all the noise insulation removed.

2011 Cadillac CTS…
…delivers art, style and performance.
“The CTS Coupe extends Cadillac’s emerging performance credentials. The CTS Coupe’s standard powertrain consists of a direct injected 3.6L V-6 and six-speed manual transmission. Direct injection technology delivers fuel more precisely to increase the efficiency of combustion, enabling more power while maintaining fuel economy and lowering emissions – including a 25-percent drop in cold-start hydrocarbon emissions.” Source: 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe | Motoring News

When you smile at your car…
…does it smile back? This Mazda concept car does…
“The latest Miata concept strips down to the bare essentials: light weight materials, modest horsepower and mind-blowing style. The Superlight strips out pretty much everything that doesn’t make the car go, turn or stop; no windshield, no top, no carpet, no nothing, only the fun stuff. Because of the lighter weight it can make do with the non-US 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 126 HP and five speed manual which is lighter than the power pack we get in the US anyway. The car tips the scales at 2,193 lbs, which ain’t no spring chicken compared to a stripped out NA, but it’s certainly a fair bit safer and just as capable. ” Source: Mazda MX-5 Superlight Says Good Morning From Frankfurt! – Mazda MX-5 Superlight Concept – Jalopnik

Jaguar Wimps Out…
…so does Mercedes-Benz.
“Last month, during a discussion with journalists about General Motors’ new “May the Best Car Win” marketing campaign, Bob Lutz laid down the challenge to any journalist to a duel with the Cadillac CTS-V to see if any comparable car could topple the Caddy. The guys at Jalopnik were the first to accept the challenge, putting forward Wes Siler, who we would later find out would compete in a 510 horsepower 2010 Jaguar XFR.
Not so apparently. Jaguar’s PR team have reportedly backed out of the challenge, which is scheduled to take place this Thursday at the Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, N.Y.” Source: Jaguar Wimps Out Of Cadillac CTS-V Challenge – MotorAuthority

CTS-V Coupe a “no brainer” …
…according to Automotive News.
“Performance fans, wagon fans, Cadillac fans, crazy dads who want to lug around kids in a 550 horsepower (check!) wagon – take notice, your car is coming. Initially, the CTS debuted as only a sedan, and then the CTS-V performance variant was introduced. For it’s second generation, while debuting as a sedan first, Cadillac saw the error of it’s ways and developed coupe and wagon variants as well.” Source: Cadillac CTS-V Sportwagon To See Light of Day

Ken Block relies on physics…
…to launch the WRX.
“Rally driving is Ken Block’s passion, but what’s earned him YouTube immortality are his gymkhana videos and those jumps where he throws his Subaru Impreza WRX STI into the atmosphere with apparent recklessness. Of course, once Block is up in the air, he puts Sir Isaac Newton in the driver’s seat. “You have to be very calculating,” says the 41-year-old co-founder of DC Shoes. ” Source: How to Throw a Subaru Impreza WRX STI into the Atmosphere – Feature – Car and Driver
