Mazda Grabs the Title!

“With one race left in this year’s SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car schedule, Mazda was able to clinch the Manufacturer’s title. The title was the company’s first with the MAZDA6 platform.

Tri-Point Motorsports’ drivers Jeff Altenburg and Randy Pobst were the leading players in Mazda’s title chase. Altenburg finished 10th and kept his lead in the driver’s championship race, while Pobst finished 15th after being punted off the track late in the race, reported JMS Motorsports Marketing.

“Congratulations to Mazda on winning the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Manufacturer’s Championship! I’m proud of the Tri Point Motorsports Team for their part in winning it after many years of trying so hard. Now we head to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the finale to settle the Driver’s Championship!” said Altenburg of #72 Tri-Point MAZDA6.” Source: enginefolder » Mazda Grabs Touring Car Title

The Mazda 3 fun to drive…

…says AutoWeek.com’s Jonathan Wong.

“Without taking into account the Mazdaspeed, Si and GTI models of the class, the Mazda 3 is hands-down my favorite player in the compact car field. The previous car struck a great balance between practicality and driving enjoyment that no other normal trim version car in this class could hold a candle to. If there was a small strike against the old car, it was that the interior could have used a little more style and possibly a slight upgrade in materials quality.

With the new second-generation 3, it wears Mazda’s smiling front fascia, a tighter chassis and a well executed interior. Above all else it remains high on the fun-to-drive scale. The four-cylinder revs freely and provides good, constant power up to redline and mated to a respectable six-speed manual. Shifts are direct, but slightly crisper action is the only thing it left me wanting. Going down gears before a corner is easily done with perfect pedal placement and the engine’s decent throttle response.” Source: The 2010 Mazda 3 S Sport 5-Door, an AW Drivers Log

Who said a hybrid can’t be handsome?

“Last night, frustrated that plug-in hybrids like the Chevy Volt are developing too slowly, Top Gear revealed its very own range-extender hybrid. Now, Autocar has conducted an independent road test to discover what we know already: it’s crappy.” Source: Top Gear’s “Car To Save The World” Independently Reviewed – Top Gear – Jalopnik

Rumor Has It…

…a new generation of the RX-7 is on the way.

“Every couple of months or so, some publication out there claims they have more information on the next-generation Mazda RX-7, which hasn’t (in the slightest way) been confirmed by the Japanese automaker. Today, that publication is UK’s AutoExpress.” Source: Mazda RX-7 to use 300-hp Renesis 16X rotary engine – egmCarTech

Subaru’s 2010 WRX STI, stuffed with good stuff!

“Making its debut alongside Subaru’s 2010 WRX STI Special Edition at the L.A. auto show is the new WRX Limited—the yang to the yin, if you will—aimed at WRX customers who want to be comfortable while bombing along their favorite back roads. Indeed, taking the 2.5-liter turbo-four up on its 265-hp offer becomes a much nicer proposition while ensconced in a leather interior, basking in the sunlight pouring in through the glass sunroof and listening to the Black Keys, Beethoven, or what have you on the standard satellite radio.” Source: 2010 Subaru WRX Limited – Auto Shows – Car and Driver Blog

Zoom in for a test drive and try it for yourself!

MAZDASPEED3 continues to “zoom”!

“The Mazda MAZDASPEED3 may be the best, most practical performance bargain out there. Mazda transformed its Mazda3 — already a great compact with sporty pretensions — with a 263-horsepower turbocharged engine, 6-speed manual transmission, sport suspension, sport seats and a monster hood scoop. The SPEED3 does everything well — the steering, suspension and brakes are all good, and there’s lots of power. The only real knock is that all the power goes to the front wheels, but Mazda does the best job possible of controlling wheel spin and torque steer, even programming the electronic control unit to cut power in the lower gears. Fuel economy is not as good as your typical compact, but this isn’t your typical compact. –Mike Meredith” Source: 2010 Mazda MAZDASPEED3 Expert Review – MSN Autos

The Mazda3 is for spirited drivers says…

…Nelson Palmer of horizons.eruanews.com.

“The Mazda 3 leapt into the compact car market in 2006 and made quite a splash. It offered high quality interior materials, excellent handling, safety, and great fuel economy. For the money, the Mazda 3 was an excellent buy.

Since then, the Mazda 3 has received good reviews for every consecutive model and its cost of ownership has been lower than average. In addition to the car’s inherent cheap connotation, the 2009 Mazda 3s can now be purchased for more than 5,000 dollars under the sticker price, as dealers are making room for new models coming in for the 2010 model year. ” Source: Car Review – Reviews
