Best sounding race car ever: Mazda 787B
When most people think of Mazda, they’re not thinking high performance. Think again!
“When most of us think of the best sounding race cars of all time, we think beyond the recent past. Cars from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s typically are the ones we think of. When we began this topic there was a number of people who threw out a more modern car: Mazda’s 787B endurance racer. There are few engines that emit such an unbelievable wail as a rotary, thanks to the high rpm’s they operate at.
Built in 1990 and 91 for the World Sportscar Championship and the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship there were only 5 cars built. While not having the same outright speed as some of the competition, the 787B was so reliable that it won the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans with Johnny Herbert, Volker Weidler, and Bertrand Gachot at the wheel. It was the only Japanese car to win Le Mans and the only winner to use other than a reciprocating engine.” Source: Best sounding race car ever: Mazda 787B — The Garage
Come on in for a test drive and see what we mean. Sorry! We don’t have any 787B’s on the lot…
